Sand cores keep the molten iron inside the mold and form the bell of the ductile iron pipe during the casting process. There are different cores for the different type of pipe that need to be cast such as TR Flex and Tyton joint types. Each core can only be used once as the molten iron causes the sand core to crumble and it is removed before being placed in the oven.
