Apache Longbow Assault • Interactive Vision White Eagle (2004)

Another curious helicopter sim-lite from the guys who brought us Apache Air Assault (don't confuse it with later one from Gaijin). It was released under different titles in different regions. You might know this as "Operation Air Assault 2" or "Gunship: Tank Killer" (according to MobyGames). This time we fly the Longbow version of the Apache. The game added air encounters with enemy helos and to make our job easier - Stinger missiles and decoy flares, illumination flares known from previous installment which focused solely on ground combat are still present.

The missions are set initially in cold Siberian region later changed to more tropical setting and are very varied, like this one which might be one of the most difficult and in which we don't fire a single round. Our job is to extract some nuclear scientist from enemy held territory. The meeting is suppose to take place on top of one of the skyscrapers in the city. We have no CP/G to make place for the doctor in his seat, so no shooting for us in this mission (though IRL pilot would still be able to use gun and FFARs without gunner's aid). The challenge is to land the Apache on top of the building without destroying your main or tail rotor, pick up the doc and vanish ASAP.

This might be a odd to find this kind of mission in a game like this, but considering this were the devs that brought us "Search and Rescure 4: Coastal Heroes" and "Search and Rescure: Vietnam Med Evac" (which I also should cover on my channel btw), it's understandable. The guys behind that game made few other budget sims like "Jet Fighter V: Homeland Protector" and its successor "Red Jets" which was so blatant cash grab it didn't even changed the F-16s cockpit from JFV while you flew your Fulcrum in Red Jets...
