ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula has criticised individuals campaigning for top positions in the party ahead of the 2027 leadership contest. Mbalula says the ANC’s immediate priority is the 2026 local government elections, warning that internal leadership ambitions risk distracting the party from its core electoral responsibilities. He argues that without securing success in the 2026 polls, any focus on the leadership race is meaningless. Political analyst Prof. Kedibone Phago shares his insights.
