The first stop is the White Buddha Statue or Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya. It is a Theravada Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in Bahirawakanda, approximately 2 km (1.2 mi) from the city centre. The temple is known for its giant Buddha statue.

The city of Kandy is also home to some of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world. The Royal Botanical Gardens, established in the 14th century, is a stunning 147-acre expanse of over 4,000 species of plants and trees, including the rare and exotic orchids that thrive in Sri Lanka's tropical climate.

One of the most iconic landmarks in Kandy is the Temple of the Tooth Relic. This sacred temple, which houses a tooth relic of Lord Buddha, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most revered places of worship in Sri Lanka. The temple's stunning architecture and intricate carvings testify to the skill of the ancient artisans who built it.

Kandy is also known for its rich cultural heritage. The city's vibrant festivals and colourful traditions reflect its diverse and eclectic history. The annual Kandy Esala Perahera, a grand procession, is a spectacular sight that draws visitors from all over the world.

My last favourite thing to do in Kandy is a Gem Factory visit. It is a free tour with an explanation of mining the stones and checking the quality and design of the jewellery. Sri Lanka is home to the sapphire.
