Making a 3D Printer Out Of LEGO

After spending two videos building a LEGO car factory, I knew that the machine had the potential to pick up and place down most individual LEGO pieces, so I wanted to try turning it into a more general pick-and-place machine to see what kinds of things it would be able to construct. To do this I had to make several modifications to the machine. I replaced the cars’ assembly platform with a simple build plate on which the structures could be assembled, and I made a slider subassembly to transport the build plate into and out from the machine at the start and end of each assembly process.
My main goal in this video was to use the machine to build a small LEGO house, but planning the layout and assembly process for the house led to some interesting challenges, as I found that the machine was better suited to picking and placing some types of LEGO elements than others. Ultimately, once these challenges were solved, the machine was able to build the house very effectively and reliably. I already have plans for many more things I'd like the machine to build, and those videos will hopefully be out soon. Enjoy the video!
