In this video, we dive into the wonderfully freeing world of urban sketching with a quick and playful approach that anyone can try — whether you're an experienced artist or just looking for a fun creative break. Just two colours and in five minutes I show you how.

This urban sketching session is all about speed, looseness, and joy! We’re going to start with three rapid sketches — a 1-minute, 3-minute, and 5-minute version — using simple everyday objects (like my trusty Red Wing boots and an ink bottle), and switching things up with a left-handed sketch for some unexpected creativity.

Then, we take it a step further by adding colour — but only TWO colours: a gorgeous rose hip orange and a bold French ultramarine blue. You'll see how these limited hues can still bring incredible depth, contrast, and life to your sketch. No fuss, just brush strokes, creative exploration, and a reminder that you don’t need a full art studio to make great art — just a pen, two colours, and a sense of play!

We'll finish off with a simple but effective painting technique that creates eye-catching shadows and details with just a few extra touches, using only a white gel pen and a bit of brush finesse. Whether you have 5 minutes or 15, this is a perfect sketching warm-up or a complete mini-masterpiece in its own right.
