About Miltonia & Miltoniopsis Orchids and their hybrids

Today we look at a group of orchids that are sometimes confused with one and other.

The Miltonias and Miltoniopsis orchids are 2 somewhat related types of orchids, but they require quite different care. Miltonias are generally hardier, warmer growing and more tolerant to dry air and Miltoniopsis require much lower temperatures and humid air to thrive.

For a typical home environment, the Miltonias are much more suited, but in cooler climates Miltoniopsis can be grown successfully as well. On the market though there are quite a few hybrids, which ones are suited for home growing?

The only way to know is by knowing their full names. The Bartley Schwarz and Nelly Isler are both Oncidopsis, but the first is super easy to grow, while the other is very problematic.

This brings us to the topic of ID'ing orchids and the opposition we usually find on forums. In the end we can all do what we want, but we need to take into account the consequences.
