Judge’s Comment:
“What really impressed me about this project is that it relates to an existing village with more than 300 years of history. The design makes use of the original footprint of the old houses, including one that had already been demolished, and creates a new continuous roof form—something quite different from the roofs in the village itself. There’s a sense of innovation here, as the space flows continuously, almost like a snake up the hillside, tying the design closely to the traditional placement of the houses and to the terrain itself.
I find it remarkable how the building seems to grow out of the rock, out of the terrain, and out of the local landscape. In the Asian context, where we have buildings both in cities and rural areas, this approach has real impact. It reminds us that rural buildings can and should understand their sites, landscapes, and terrain—so that future designs truly respect the context of their location.” — Puay-peng HO, Professor of Architecture, National University of Singapore

評審觀點：
「這個項目最令我印象深刻之處，是它與一條三百多年歷史古村落之間的緊密關係。設計師善用舊房子的原有基址，包括一幢早已拆卸的建築，並打造出一個新的延綿屋頂形態，這對村內的傳統屋頂而言可說是前所未見。這種創新手法令空間如同一條蛇般蜿蜒而上，既呼應了傳統房屋的佈局，亦完美契合地形的起伏。
這座建築彷彿從岩石中生長出來，與地形與自然景觀融為一體，這是我特別欣賞它的地方。在亞洲的語境下，無論是城市或鄉村建築，這種做法都具有深遠意義。它提醒我們，鄉村建築應該理解土地、尊重地貌，並從環境出發，讓場地塑造建築，而不是建築支配場地。」— 何培斌, 新加坡國立大學建築學系教授
