Geneva is the second-most populous city in Switzerland and the most populous in French-speaking Romandy. Situated in the southwest of the country, where the Rhône exits Lake Geneva, it is the capital of the Republic and Canton of Geneva, and a centre for international diplomacy. Geneva hosts the highest number of international organizations in the world, and has been referred to as the world's most compact metropolis and the "Peace Capital".
Geneva-Cornavin station , commonly called Cornavin station , is an international station and the main railway station in the Republic and Canton of Geneva , before those of Geneva-Airport , Geneva-Eaux-Vives , Geneva-Sécheron and Lancy-Pont-Rouge .
The third largest station in Switzerland , Cornavin sees around 156,000 passengers and 720 trains pass through every working day.
Geneva-Cornavin station is the gateway or terminus for many Swiss CFF trains, as well as for French SNCF trains with the TGV and TER Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes trains . It is the hub of the Léman Express , the cross-border regional express network (RER) .
