"Blue Quills Indian Residential School" originated in Lac la Biche, Alberta and was also known by the following names: "Blue Quills Roman Catholic Indian Residential School","St. Joseph's Hostel", "St. Joseph's Hospice", "Blue Quills School", "Sacred Heart Mission", "Sacred Heart Indian Residential School", "Blue Quills Native Residential School", "Blue Quills Student Residence", "Blue Quills Native Education Centre", "Sacred Heart", "Saddle Lakes", "Blue Quills Boarding School", "St. Paul’s Boarding School".. and the "Saddle Lake Boarding School". This school,( under the names mentioned above) was operational in Lac la Biche, St. Paul & Saddle Lake First Nation Alberta, between 1862 and 1970. Blue Quills Indian Residential School was operated by the Roman Catholic Church and was under the jurisdiction of the Saddle Lake Indian Agency. In 1898, the school moved to Saddle Lake, Alberta from Lac la Biche, Alberta, and it would move, yet again, to St. Paul, Alberta, in 1931, where it was renamed: Sacred Heart Indian Residential School and later, the Saddle Lake Boarding School. In 1931, the school was moved within St. Paul, Alberta and renamed: St. Paul’s Boarding School. Whatever name it operated by, when under colonial administration, it was known, as one of the most brutal residential schools, in Canada.
