Our wonderful organ at St Mellitus has more than 2,000 pipes, but how do the pipes make music? What do all those funny buttons, known as ‘stops’, near the keyboards do? And what are organists doing with their feet? If you've ever wondered how a pipe organ works, our new animation for children has now launched, so you can find out.
This charming and informative animation was created by Izzy Argent, a recent graduate of UCA Farnham, with music and sound by multi-instrumentalist, arranger and composer Matt Redman. The voiceover artist is Charlotte Baylis and organ advice came from Jeremy Sampson, creator of the WOOFYT.
The animation forms part of an education pack for schools which will launch in September 2021 and will be available on the St Mellitus Organ Restoration Project website. It was made with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
