All four escalators at Cutty Sark (for Maritime Greenwich) London Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station have become a maintenance liability and hence need replacing. To do this the station closed on 1st June 2025. The escalator replacement project is expected to take about 10 months.
Whilst the station is closed passengers are advised to use the nearby Greenwich railway station (about 10 minutes walk away) which is also served by two mainline / National Rail train operators - SouthEastern and Thameslink.
This film shows Cutty Sark station immediately before and just after the start of this closure, plus other places of nearby interest, such as the Cutty Sark tea clipper in a dry dock, the Greenwich foot tunnel below the River Thames and the North Greenwich Pier river bus stop / station.
Also featured is Greenwich station - which first opened in 1838 and is one of London's oldest railway stations. Remarkably the Grade ll listed station building (which opened in 1840) is still open and functioning as a railway station.
