Shanghai Jing'an Temple 2024 | Travel Guide

Jing'an Temple, located on West Nanjing Road in Shanghai's Jing'an District, is one of the city's most famous temples with a history spanning over 780 years. Originally built during the Three Kingdoms period (220-280 AD) as Hudu Chongyuan Temple, it was later relocated and renamed Jing'an Temple in 1945 by a renowned calligrapher. The temple suffered significant damage during the Cultural Revolution but was rebuilt starting from 1984 and reopened to the public in 1990. Today, it serves as a peaceful oasis amidst Shanghai's bustling downtown area, featuring notable attractions such as its bronze bell from the Ming Dynasty and an impressive collection of Buddhist relics. Visitors can explore various halls like the Hall of Heavenly Kings and enjoy cultural events like the annual Temple Fair held on Buddha's Birthday
