This video explains the anatomy and osteology of the navicular. A left bone is used.
1) Inferior Surface -- groove for plantar component of tendon of tibialis posterior
2) Medial Surface -- tuberosity of the navicular serves as attachment for main component of tendon of tibialis posterior. Os tibiale externum (pre hallux) found posterior to tuberosity
3) Anterior Surface -- divided into three articular facets
4) Posterior Surface -- concave for head of talus
5) Primary Center of Ossification -- 2.5 to 5 years of age
