On 26 May 1982, ITN broadcast the first combat footage to be shared from the Falklands War. The pictures, aired more than three weeks after the footage was filmed, record the first week of contact between the British task force and the Argentine military, between 1–8 May 1982. ITN's Michael Nicholson reported from aboard HMS Hermes. Among the most significant events recorded by Nicholson and his crew are reactions to the British torpedoing of the Argentine cruiser ARA General Belgrano, and the Argentine exocet missile attack on HMS Sheffield.
