Ginkgo Petrified Forest - Washington State

Considered one of the most diverse fossil forests in the world, Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park is famous for its rare specimens of over 50 petrified tree species. Around 40 million years ago, this region was a lush temperate forest. Numerous volcanic eruptions buried the trees in ash and debris, creating conditions that slowly turned them to stone.

The park spans 7,470 acres and features a visitor center and well-established trails. In this video, we venture along the cliff tops flanking the Columbia River and scramble down to a remote slot canyon known as “The Hole in the Wall.” This seldom-visited area of the park is home to abundant wildlife, including herds of bighorn sheep and elk.
