In this video, Dennis answers one question that every interdiction officer has: How do I watch cars? The answer is simple. It depends on your area. If you are in a place where you can position your patrol vehicle on the highway where you can see traffic and the inside of cars, then do so. However, if you work in the city then driving around may be a better choice. Now, Dennis emphasizes that you should not be using your radar or running tags at random. First, look for reactions to your presence; once you have seen a reaction and begin to follow a vehicle, you can start running tags or using your speedometer. The second point that he makes is the passenger side approach. You must change your tactics and begin using this approach instead of the driver-side practice. There are many near-death stories that officers send us, and they are uninjured because they make passenger side approaches.
