In this video, I introduce adding unlike fractions and explain why fractions with different denominators cannot be added right away.
Because the denominators represent different-sized parts, students must first rewrite the fractions so the parts are the same size. This is done by finding a common denominator, specifically the least common denominator (LCD) using the least common multiple (LCM).
This lesson focuses on understanding the process, not memorizing steps, and helps students build a strong foundation before moving on to more complex fraction problems.
