The Heavyblade Rabbit from Rabbit & Steel takes on a new adventure in Rivals of Aether! True to her title, Heavyblade is an aggressive, air-based cruiserweight swordfighter. Simple yet strong, she excels at spacing and taking opponents down with slow, hefty greatsword strikes.

Mechanic: Skill Charge

Heavyblade’s NSpecial, USpecial, and DSpecial are all chargeable in a similar fashion to strong attacks, and gain additional power and properties when fully charged. Like in Rabbit & Steel, she can also gain a “charge” status effect that increases the power of these moves– in Rivals of Aether, this lets her unleash a fully charged special instantly! This status can be gained by landing her FSpecial, Dark Wave, as well as her Jab 3, DStrong, and uncharged DSpecial.

Special Moves

Neutral Special: Full Moon

A powerful spinning attack that covers an area all to the sides of Heavyblade. When charged, its range also increases. On the ground, Heavyblade can drift left or right while spinning, and in the air, this move stalls her descent for a little bit. DOWN can be held to suppress the aerial stall.

Forward Special: Dark Wave

Heavyblade slices into the air, sending forth a large, medium-ranged projectile that moves in a straight path. This projectile isn’t very strong, but will grant her the charge status on hit– perfect for stuffing out edgeguarding attempts while improving your recovery. In addition, this move possesses a physical hitbox before the projectile is sent out, which can be used to keep opponents off of you.

Up Special: Spinning Leap

Heavyblade leaps, spinning and automatically attacking anyone in her path– she is completely invincible to projectiles while she’s flying through the air! The aerial version of this move has her leap upwards, while the grounded version has her leap forwards. In addition, the grounded version of the move doesn’t put her in pratfall afterwards, which makes it ideal for setting up deep edgeguards.

Down Special: Gemstrike

Heavyblade channels the magic of a gemstone into her sword. Uncharged, this move is a simple sword strike that grants you charge on hit. When fully charged, however, it becomes a unique attack depending on her currently equipped gemstone! Gemstones are visible on her HUD and are consumed once charged DSpecial is used. She rotates through them in the following order: Opal - Sapphire - Ruby - Garnet - Emerald. On the CSS before a match, you can choose which gemstone you start with.

Opal - An anti-air slash that launches opponents upwards. It has a high hitstun multiplier, and can be used as a combo tool or set up a tech chase. It also restores both your airdodge and double jump on hit.
Sapphire - A rushing attack in which Heavyblade vanishes and reappears, leaving behind a series of multihitting slashes. This can be used to set up a combo, or to aid your recovery.
Ruby - An extremely slow yet explosively powerful sword slam– which has the potential to KO at ridiculously early percentages. Possesses super armor before the move becomes active.
Garnet - A straight sword thrust. Has a weak sourspot, but an immensely damaging sweetspot that stuns opponents. In addition, landing this move allows you to cancel its endlag into a jump, dash, or any other attack on a successful hit.
Emerald - A wide slash with considerable KO power. Has a very large amount of horizontal range, which can be used to catch opponents off guard should they be out of your reach.

Other Notable Moves

DAttack can go off ledges while Heavyblade is hovering during the active frames of the move.

When landing NAir, Heavyblade can “bunny hop” off of opponents by holding UP or JUMP during hitpause. In addition, there is a toggle on the CSS that allows you to also input ATTACK to perform this.

Along with a standard taunt, Heavyblade also has a down taunt.
