First day officially snowboarding in Japan! Woke up to a beautiful sunrise after a wonderful night sleep. Our top floor hotel room overlooks the valley to some other mountains to the east so it is gorgeous for sunrise. We got geared up and headed downstairs for a breakfast at the hotel. It was delicious! They had a lot of variety. Definitely interesting, the eggs were wild looking, had some kind of salmon or trout, weird but decent sausage links, the oranges were so delicious! Out the window was the base area of the ski resort, so awesome staying across the street from the ski area. We grabbed our boards and took off to the slopes. SO STOKED! Got our tickets for about $35 for the day and went to the first lift! Chee hoo!! The lifty was the kindest happiest lifty I had ever met, so smily and happy to be there alive! Probably the highlight of my day. We took off with excitement the first run and hit some trees with some leftover powder. Turns out my board is in dyer need for a wax. I was slowing down with the warm conditions. We still did get some good snow from the big storm but it also warmed up into the 40s so it got soft fast. The area was beautiful, the mountains above the resort were so tempting to ride, it is weird that all of the ski resorts here stop at the foothills of the mountains and don't go up to the summits. We found our Hawaiian friends and skied the afternoon with them on the far skier's left of the resort through some tree runs. The top lift stopped running after our first run on it which was super annoying and sad, hopefully it was for a safety reason. We got lunch and the mid mountain base area where they have hot chocolate inside vending machines that comes out hot! With other cold drinks as well inside, so amazing. I got a pork cutlet with rice meal and Jesse got some ramen. We explored the entire mountain for the rest of the day and finished right at closing time. Came in and switched into our Yukatas (Japanese robes) and went down to the Onsen (Japanese bath house) it was sucha. unique experience, there are hot mineral waters flowing through the entire town and so we had our own hot springs in the basement but it was pretty dirty lookin, then after you soak (naked) you go sit on a 6 inch stool in front of a mirror and bath yourself with a showerhead and faucet, shampoo, body wash, adn conditioner, and a rag as you vulnerably sit there naked in a not so sexy position haha. It was so relaxing and such a different experience, we loved the Onsen! Then we went out on the town and got some delicious Kebabs from Kebab 501, the owner is named Coach from Nagano. Jesse got the creamy caesar with jalapenos and cheese, I went for the spicy habanero with jalapenos that he first said not spicy then as he poured the sauce said spicy spicy haha. My lips were cracked and dried and it burned through em! So hot! Passed out in bed by 9 pm!
