Back in February I went to Surfmotion, Soma Bay (Red Sea, Egypt) for a good week of windsurfing. Soma Bay is a fantastic spot and Peter Müller runs his surfstation Surfmotion with passion and quality! He saluted me with ‘MOIN’ and my heart made some jumps, because this is how to greet friends in the part of Germany where I was born. Beautify that all his staff speaks English and they even wish you ‘viel spass’ on the water in German! Just great to feel the family spirit at the station. I love the surfboys helping you to bring your gear to the water and taking it over after some good runs of windsurf…. Yes, ladies like this!

There is a big sail house where you can rig/tune your gear on carpet in the shadow. They even vacuum clean it every day. There is room to stall your own gear for a good price and good gear to rent. And they have a taxi service to pick you up from the airport at a fee lower than that of the travel organisation. But most of all, I enjoyed the company and that Peter joins with windsurfing. In summary, it is the best surf station that I have visited so far! Relaxed, good quality, good service.

The spot is excellent for slalom / speed / light wind / foil / formula on flat water / small chop. In the bay you feel safe, I haven’t thought of sharks at all. So, I could enjoy surfing and looking out for some great turtles instead of hearing the scary shark tune in my head. There is good variation to surf, in the bay with shorter runs and jibes, and trips to a great speed strip, and also out of the reef. I haven’t seen it all during one week.
We surfed every day! Especially early in the mornings there is good wind!

Surfmotion has housephotografers! They are out every day and taking lots of picture, in really good quality. At the end of the day you can watch all pictures and for a FANTASTIC price you can put all your pics on your own stick. One day we had a photographer in the parachute taking pictures from above. Need I say more??? Just Awesome.

We stayed in Palm Royale Soma Bay, the hotel near the surfstation. This place is nice, clean and friendly. Nice to not have to ware an all-inclusive tag around your wrist.

I tested the new GUNSAILS BOW 8,7 and my new wetsuit by Soöruz Surfwear Benelux. Just perfect! What more can I say.

If you are looking for a relaxed windsurf vacation, also with your family, and you want to make new friends, I can absolutely recommend Soma Bay and Surfmotion!! For beginners and advanced level.
