Sakai, Osaka is one of the three major cutlery production areas in Japan. It is famous for its "Sakai forged cutlery," which is made by dividing the work of blacksmithing, sharpening the blade, and attaching the handle. We spoke to Shotaro Nomura, a veteran sharpener with over 60 years of experience and a traditional craftsman, about how to sharpen knives and about his life.
