Education, Arts, and Crafts in Contexts of Confinement- Ana Camarda, Buenos Aires, Argentina

This talk explored the practices of the Prison Extension Program at the School of Philosophy and Letters, University of Buenos Aires. The program's objective is to develop, propose, and coordinate teaching, research, and outreach activities in contexts of confinement. These initiatives aim to expand the rights and promote the inclusion of individuals deprived of their freedom, as well as those who have already been released. Within this framework, we will discuss the specific educational, artistic, and professional practices we engage in, the reflections that guide these practices, and the various ways they manifest and impact the lives of participants.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Born in Lanús, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ana Camarda holds degrees in Literature (Bachelor's and Teaching) from the University of Buenos Aires. She currently serves as the Undersecretary of Postgraduate Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, University of Buenos Aires. With over ten years of experience as a high school teacher, Ana has been an activist and educator at the University Center located within the Federal Prison Complex of Buenos Aires and other correctional facilities since 2013. She is a member of the coordination team for the Prison Extension Program of the School of Philosophy and Letters.
Ana is also involved in research projects focused on Prison Writing, where she has analyzed pinhole photography produced in prisons. An amateur photographer since 2013, she has taken various courses and workshops on photography. In 2023, she published her first photobook, "One Thousand Days."
