This video highlights a recent Right to Sight initiative hosted at BUSAMED Hospital, where a dedicated ophthalmology team provided 20 cataract surgeries and a retinal detachment repair for patients who would otherwise have no access to sight-restoring care.
The footage includes interviews with the theatre team, practice manager, scrub sister, anaesthetist, ward staff and several patients before and after surgery. It captures the emotion, relief and gratitude of individuals whose lives were changed in a single day.
Why it matters:
Cataracts remain one of the leading causes of preventable blindness. Many people in the community struggle to access surgical treatment due to financial limitations. The Right to Sight program brings together sponsors, volunteers and healthcare professionals to ensure that every person has the chance to see again.
This initiative is made possible through the generosity of sponsors and the commitment of the entire BUSAMED team. Their combined support helps restore independence, dignity and hope to patients in need.
Those wishing to contribute to future Right to Sight events or support the program are welcome to reach out.
Together, we can help restore sight – one patient at a time.
