FET vs Soft Clipping • What's The Tone Difference? Discrete FET v...
Today we are looking at a fun mod idea to get that "crunchy/chewy" Marshall Plexi, Tweed Bassman type tone from an op amp based overdrive circuit.
I don't know if such a circuit exists in a pedal today, but we are adding a JFET stage at the end of an op amp overdrive, just to use it as a clipping transistor and get those FET breakup tones. If you've made your own breadboard overdrive, I invite you to do something similar and have fun exploring different tones from that circuit!
