Our Mercedes A-Class is a stunning, sporty-looking, and yet highly efficient hatch which has all the quality and comfort you expect from a Merc along with the ability to achieve up to 70 mpg combined fuel economy. This late 2013 car is the sought after AMG SPORT model and it is finished in the best colour combination of white and black exterior with the black and red interior. It really does look sensational....

But, while this car looks sensational, it is also incredibly frugal. The 1.5 litre turbo-diesel engine has BlueEfficiency technology which gives it amazing fuel economy of up to 70mpg - It also means the A-Class has low exhaust emissions which are rewarded by its cheap £20 a year tax bracket. But despite its green-credentials, the 107bhp A180 is both smooth and effective in its power delivery. With a 6 speed gearbox, you are always able to get the power down when needed and that power delivery is reassuringly instantaneous, with a surge of power that is relentless all the way to the red line. Our car is fitted with Mercedes superb cruise control, which is the best in the business. The car is also fitted with a speed limiter function which is a license saver is built up areas and average speed checks. Thanks to its AMG sport suspension and 18" alloy wheels the A180 handles as good as it looks. Turn-in is instant and the grip is fantastic. It's an entertaining drive which easily lives up to the pedigree of this fantastic marque.

Step inside the A-Class and you are greeted by a well-finished interior which looks very sporty and welcoming. The stitched leather seats are sporty and very supportive with their deep bolsters. They are generously proportioned though, and provide superb comfort on long journeys .I love the carbon-effect on the dashboard as well as the red highlights such as the air-vents and the stitching on the seats and door panels. The centre console has a large touchscreen display which houses the cars multimedia stereo system, satellite navigation and onboard computer. The chunky, leather-bound steering wheel feels and looks sporty as does the leather and aluminum gear-shifter. While the A-180 has been designed to appeal to the more youthful market, it still has that high-quality Mercedes-Benz feel to remind you this is a premium product. Rear seat passengers are also well catered for and there are isofix child seat anchorage points on the outer rear seats for added safety.
