1993 BATTLE OF HASTINGS GRASSTRACK

After heavy overnight rain the track was very deep and muddy, so making a good start was a priority, and some riders don't like these conditions, but the track dried as the day went on. Some brilliant racing in the 250cc Solo's, with the talented Mark Wadsworth using all his experience in the conditions, but with Lee Street, Carl Wilkes, Graham Thomas, and Dean Camier all in opposition he would not find this easy. The 250 final was absolutely fantastic, but could anyone beat Wadsworth? In the 500cc Solo's, there were a few surprises, as some riders were staying inside the heavy dirt line, and some tried the outside line on the grass, and this made for some pretty good racing, as certain riders seemed to revel in the conditions.
Roger Measor/Shane Lapham looked to have got the bike setup absolutely sport on in the RH Sidecars, and there was more than a lot of drama in this class, as a few outfits overturned when they hit the heavy dirt. One of the most incredible incidents in the RH Sidecars was Ivor Matthews having to take avoiding action to miss the finish line posts, but almost wiped out Rob Wilson/Vince Jones who were recovering from having to push their outfit over the line in the previous race.
Sadly after some great racing in the heats in the 500cc Sidecars, the last couple of finals were cancelled due to a tragic accident in the second running of the 500cc Sidecar final. This has been deleted from the footage of this meeting out of respect for family members and other riders it may affect.
