The latest jobs report, released Friday, indicated that the US economy added about 22,000 jobs in August and the unemployment rate ticked up to 4.3%, the highest it's been in nearly four years.
The unemployment rate for Black workers in the United States rose again last month to 7.5%, the highest level since October 2021. A rise in the Black unemployment rate is often considered "the canary in the coal mine," foretelling a broader-scale job market slowdown.
