2007 - 2014 GM Trucks 5.3L Vortec V8 with AFM ~ Oil Fouled Spark Plugs Piston Cleaning (Chevy & GMC)

In this video we will go thru a GM service bulletin procedure for cleaning and freeing up piston rings of excessive carbon deposits leading to excessive oil consumption on GM vehicles equipped with the 5.3L Vortec V8 gasoline fueled engine. This condition repeatedly leads to oil fouling of the spark plugs leading to misfires, particularly with the #1 and #7 cylinders. And this oil fouled spark plug(s) condition will often result in the generation of DTCs P0300, P0301, and P0307. The 5.3L vortec engine comes in both an aluminum block and iron block regular production option (RPO) in various flavors (e.g., LH9, L94, LZ1, L99, LC9, LH6, L76, L92, LFA, LMG, and LY5).

The truck illustrated is a 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche LT Z71 Black Diamond Edition in the 1500 series, equipped with the RPO LC9 aluminum block 5.3L engine. But the chemicals, tools, parts, and procedure shown in this video are applicable to all 5.3L engines equipped with active fuel management (AFM) in the model year range of the video title and especially any GMT900 NNBS (new new body style) style SUV or pickup truck in the 1500 weight series from 2007 thru 2014 with this engine such as the Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra, GMC Yukon, or GMC Yukon XL.
