Philippine Overtime Pay is the additional compensation given to employees who render work beyond the standard eight-hour workday. As mandated by the Labor Code, those who work overtime must be paid an extra 25% of their hourly rate for regular workdays. If the overtime occurs on a rest day or holiday, the premium increases. This provision is meant to uphold fair labor practices, ensuring that workers are adequately rewarded for extended hours of service. Overtime pay not only serves as an incentive but also as a safeguard against employer abuse, promoting just compensation for time and effort beyond regular duties.
