Singapore’s Parliament passed the Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Bill (OSRA) on 5 November 2025 after more than eight hours of debate, rejecting all five amendments proposed by the Workers’ Party (WP). The law creates a new Online Safety Commission (OSC) to direct digital platforms to remove harmful content and assist victims, with operations starting by June 2026.
Ministers said the Bill balances flexibility with effective safeguards, arguing WP’s proposals were already covered under existing laws.
WP’s He Ting Ru defended the amendments, saying they aimed to enhance the law’s effectiveness and ensure urgent cases could be addressed swiftly. The Bill was ultimately passed without amendment.
