In 1956, Saab created a sensation at the Stockholm Motor Show with the unveiling of their first sports car -- the Saab Sonett Super. It was an open-topped, two-seat competition sports car. Its glass fiber body sat on a light alloy frame that had been developed and produced to meet new competition rules. Power came from a three-cylinder, two-stroke engine tuned to produce 57-brake horse power at 5000 rpm. It was planned to go into production, but only six cars were ever made.
