Master studies are a tried and tested part of art education, and they help in lots of ways: we can learn, for example, composition and technique, and perhaps most importantly, get inspired by exceptional artists.
Doing master studies is not simply copying an artist’s works. A master study is an attempt to understand the process and creative choices of an artist, typically an established one, in an effort to see how they arrive at a finished work.
