Fun trail ride to the Papakolea Green Sand Beach

Papakōlea Green Sand Beach, located on the Big Island of Hawaii, is one of only four green sand beaches in the world. The beach is known for its unique green sand, which is primarily composed of olivine, a mineral that forms from volcanic activity.

4WD Vehicle: Driving is possible but risky due to rough terrain. Rental agreements often prohibit driving on these roads.

Shuttle Service: Locals may offer rides in off-road vehicles for a fee, typically around $20-$30 per person.

What to Expect
The hike features a long stretch of exposed terrain with little variation in scenery. It is advisable to start early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid the heat. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and sun protection, as there are no amenities along the trail.
