The story of Prophet Yunus AS, known as Jonah in Christianity, is one of the most inspiring Islamic stories about repentance, patience, and Allah's mercy. Sent by Allah to the people of Nineveh, a city filled with idol worship and corruption, Prophet Yunus AS preached Tawheed (Oneness of Allah) but his people rejected the message. In frustration, he left the city without Allah’s permission, an act not befitting a prophet.
As a consequence, while traveling by sea, a violent storm hit the ship he boarded. The crew cast lots to find who was at fault, and Yunus AS’s name was drawn. He was thrown into the sea and swallowed by a giant fish by Allah’s command. Inside the darkness of the fish, deep in the sea,
Prophet Yunus AS realized his mistake and made a sincere dua:
"La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimeen"
There is no deity but You. Glory be to You! Truly, I was among the wrongdoers.
This powerful Quranic dua is mentioned in Surah Al-Anbiya and is widely recited by Muslims
