Most of these early 1894 Models were upgraded to the Model 1901. This one managed to escape all the modifications and improvements which means it never had a lanyard installed and still has all matching numbers including the barrel with the early 1884 and 1888 patent dates intact. These revolvers served in cavalry units in the American West, the Spanish American War, Philippines, and the Chinese Boxer Rebellion.
Frame is RAC inspected "Ronaldo A. Carr" who also inspected the last Single Action Army Revolvers shipped to the US Gov't. It was the first DA, swing-out cylinder revolver adopted for U.S. military service.
This revolver works 100% ... sharp edges, crisp markings, and nice screws. Walnut grips have a couple small knicks. The cartouche on grips are lightly visable. R.A.C. is stamped on frame, cylinder and bottom of walnut grips. The factory applied barrel address, and patents are clear, well defined (COLTS PT F.A. MFG CO. HARTFORD CT USA PATENTED AUG 5 1884 NOV 6 88 March 5 95.)-- (COLT D.A. 38 stamped on side of barrel.) (Serial #91200-115,000).
Made in 1898
