I'm still not quite brave enough to dye 100g of roving! In this video, I dye 20g of White Welsh Top with the intention of spinning it. This was the last project I dyed that day and thought out the day, I had been rinsing my fingers off in a jug of water. This was a lovely blue-grey colour, so I decided to use that to dye my last 20g of fibre. I squirted on some fluorescent fuchsia, which made a pretty pattern. After setting the dye in a low immersion set up, I decided to scribble on some more fluorescent fuchsia, then steam set in an attempt to save the pattern it made. Once the fibre had cooled, been washed and dried, I was able to spin it.
Fibre reactive dyes can be used on plant based fibre and animal based fibres. Acid dyes can only be used on animal based fibres.
