In this video Prof Pujitha Wickramasinghe is talking about how onset of adult diseases occur due to fetal programming
According to DOHaD hypothesis , programming for later onset of adult diseases occur during their fetal life. Factors like hormonal changes, environment and epigenetic influence fetal programming which could lead to adulthood NCD like overweight and obesity.
DNA methylation, nucleoprotein acetylation can alter gene expression or phenotype in order to suit the environment. One good example of how environment factors would trigger fetal programming is that , undernourished mother would give birth to a low birth size infant and such babies have higher risk of developing obesity in later life.
It has well proven that most of the adult diseases are a result of negative fetal programming of individual.
