Phillip Sear plays a fine lullaby-like piece from a set from around 1906 by the Norwegian organist, pianist, and composer Einar Melling (1880–1949).
---------------------------------------------------
Melling overcame significant personal challenges to establish himself as a respected musician of his era. Born in 1880, in Lindås, he grew up as a foster child and was afflicted with an eye disease that left him blind. Despite this adversity, he pursued his musical education at specialized institutions and later trained at the Leipzig Conservatory—apparently as the first blind student admitted there. Melling distinguished himself as both a performer and composer, appearing as a concert pianist both in Norway and abroad, including performances with orchestras. He was particularly noted for his improvisational skills and composed several well-regarded works, especially for piano. From 1924 until his death, he served as organist at Frogner Church in Oslo, a position that allowed him to contribute to Norway's liturgical musical tradition. (Claude, June 23rd 2025, edited).
