Ernest Hemingway was an American novelist, short story writer and journalist. He wrote most of his works between the mid 1920s and the mid 1950s. Many critics considered him to be one of the greatest authors of the 20th century. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. Two of his most famous works were ''The Old Man and the Sea'' and ''A Farewell to Arms''. He was born on July 21, 1899, in Oak Park, Illinois.
