# SPRING OUTDOOR PROJECTS 2022

This week's video is in response to a shout out from RB The Gardening Nanny and it entails tackling those spring outdoor projects. Miguel and I spent part of the winter removing a very unhealthy Cypress hedge from the front garden and this spring we set about reconfiguring the irrigation system for this area. We inherited a dreadful system which consists of micro sprinklers are very long rigid spikes that break below soil level if you so much as look at them sideways.....bring in 3 boisterous dogs and it is a recipe for disaster. We have spent the last 2-3 years repairing them constantly. This is the only remaining area of the garden waiting to be recovered and redesigned and I kept pushing it back because I had other more pressing areas to tackle and frankly I wanted to have a good think about this area. I had trialled many plants in this area and almost none thrived. After 20 years of a Cypress hedge in this area, the soil is dry and full of roots. Worse still when it rains the topsoil is washed away due to the steepness of the embankment. So we decided to bring this project forward and start the process of installing a 2-leval terrace using train sleepers which is in keeping with the rest of the property and the rustic mountain setting. We are now in the process of removing those shrubs which we will not be keeping and also I will have to remove all the English Ivy and Vinca before I can start planting anything there. Quite a project - but the first step is always the hardest. Once the ball has been set in motion we will just get on with it!
