Pelicans and Cormorants are often seen hanging out together.
They often feed together because their different hunting styles create a mutually beneficial fishing relationship.
Pelicans are surface feeders and use their large bodies to herd fish to the surface where they scoop them up with their large bills. The abundant concentration of fish provides cormorants easy access to food.
On the other hand, Cormorants are deep water divers. When they dive, they flush the fish towards the surface, driving them directly to the pelicans.
In my video, American White Pelicans and Neotropic cormorants are seen fishing together while they are surrounded by ten Black-crowned Night Herons.
