In the SEASON 2 premiere of ARTDOCS TV, we step into the world of Sam Modder—a Nigerian-Sri Lankan visual artist known for her striking pen, collage, and digital works portraying larger-than-life Black female characters. Through intimate studio moments, gallery installations, and personal interviews, Sam reveals the inspirations behind her art, the challenges of breaking through as a Black woman in the art world, and the deep ties between her upbringing and creative voice.

From childhood wonder to speculative storytelling, Sam’s work creates alternate realities where Black women are protagonists—defiant, imaginative, and unbound. In her latest series, she builds a personal fairytale confronting power, exploitation, and resistance, using hair as a symbolic force of narrative and identity.
