What is a Pipeline Tie-In Joint?
Generally A pipeline tie-in joint is a connection point where a new pipeline section is welded or mechanically connected to an existing pipeline system.
A tie-in joint is the last weld (or connection) made to link a new pipeline segment (or spool) into the main line. It is often the final step in pipeline construction, modification, or repair.

Types of Tie in:
Field Tie-In: Made in the field (on-site) to connect two pipeline segments.
Hot Tie-In: Done while the existing line is in service (pressurized and flowing).
Cold Tie-In: Done when the pipeline is depressurized and isolated (safe shutdown).
Mechanical Tie-In: Uses flanges or couplings (not welded), often in above-ground or temporary lines.

What is Pipeline Temperature TIE IN joint?
pipeline temperature tie-in joints refer to special joints used during the tie-in process that are designed to accommodate thermal expansion or contraction resulting from temperature differences between the installed pipe and the operating conditions

“The pipeline segment between tie-in points remains fully restrained at the tie-in temperature, provided that thermal expansion or contraction is prevented by sufficient anchorage at both ends.”

Let me explain:
"Fully restrained" means that the pipeline cannot expand or contract freely due to external constraints (anchors, backfilled section, longer section etc.).
"Tie-in temperature" refers to the temperature at which the pipeline was connected or installed.
"Expansion or shrinkage" results from temperature changes after installation.
"Adequate anchorage" ensures that these movements are prevented.
