Mario Kindelan arrived at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games to defend his position as current Olympic champion from Sydney 2000 and take another medal.
At age 33, Kindelán had reached the final and was now to face Britain's 17 year-old promise Amir Khan.
The fight began with Khan showing his talent, getting to a single point lead at the end of the first round. During the second round though, the Cuban athlete came back to dominate the combat with a five point margin at 14-9. Keeping control of the scoreboard until the end of the fight, Mario Kindelán took the Olympic gold medal for the second time with a 30-22 score.
Immediately after being declared victor, the two time Olympic champion approached his opponent's corner and congratulated Amir Khan, who was now the youngest British Olympic boxing medalist ever.
