Sugar Coated Truths: Is Being Polite a Pretty Little Lie?

We were recently asked about fakeness in our current society and how being polite often goes hand in hand with the popular slogan, faking it till you make it!

It seems that people are more obsessed with being fake now more than ever before. Women in particular...fake bodies (thanks to surgery), fake hair, fake nails, fake designer bags....it goes on and on! But at the same time, we CAN'T STAND an obvious fake, we loathe the label of "fake".

So if so many of us can't stand fakeness, why are we somewhat obsessed with being polite and spreading so much kindness? Is kindness really what we're trying to spread, or is it a shiny looking kind image some of us are after? Where is the line drawn between being genuinely kind and being fake?
