The title refers to a study or research project that aims to improve the electrochromic properties of coordination nanosheets, which are thin sheets of material made up of coordination compounds (i.e. chemical compounds that contain a central metal atom bonded to a group of surrounding ligands). Electrochromism is the ability of a material to change its optical properties, such as its color or transparency, in response to an applied electric current. By tuning the electrochromic properties of these nanosheets, it may be possible to create materials that can be used in applications such as "smart windows" or display screens that can be dynamically adjusted to control the amount of light that passes through them.
The goal of this study is to develop nanosheets with high optical memory, meaning that they are able to retain their electrochromic properties for a long period of time even after the electric current is removed. In particular, the study focuses on using near-infrared (NIR) electrochromism, which involves the absorption of light in the NIR region of the electromagnetic spectrum. By using NIR electrochromism, it may be possible to create nanosheets with improved stability and durability, as well as the ability to selectively absorb light in the NIR range, which is not visible to the human eye.
