In this video I restore and cleanup my Great-Grandads 1940s engineers wooden tool box, that i found a few weeks ago in my Grandads garden shed.
The box is made from plywood and was heavily soiled with oil and many years of dirt and general grime. It also appeared to be finished with some kind of varnish that had flaked off over the years.
To clean up the box I scrapped off any of the old varnish, the best i could and cleaned it with a fine wire wool and methylated spirit, all that brought the wood up a treat!
The base of the box was solid enough but had seperated slightly from the front and back, so i glued and added some extra pins to give it some strength.
I quickly sanded the vlasp fittings and painted them black. When fitting these back on the box i used the original fixings.
Gave it all a light sand and coated it with some linseed oil and finished with some beeswax!
