Witness Malta’s Moving Good Friday Procession | Żebbuġ 2025 Highlights

For 2025, we made our way to Zebbuġ to witness the Good Friday Procession (Il-Purċissjoni tal-Ġimgħa L-Kbira) and capture one of the most sacred traditions of Holy Week.

Compared to the other Holy Week processions, the Good Friday one is by far the longest out of them all. The Procession usually takes around 2 hours to go out of the church and it is usually all back in the church by 9 or 10 pm.

We hope to give you a glimpse of this tradition that has been going on for hundreds of years, since the time of the Knights of St. John. These sacred moments are what makes Malta so unique.

We hope you enjoy this short glimpse into one of Malta’s most heartfelt traditions. And if this is your first time seeing it, we truly hope you’ll get to experience it in person one day.
