Inside An Ancient Mayan Fire Ritual In Guatemala

I experienced a sacred Mayan fire ceremony in Guatemala with Mayan Shaman, Tomasa Lissell Calel De Ignacio.

For thousands of years, the Mayan Fire Ceremony has been a ritual of prayer, healing, and divination—where offerings are placed into the sacred fire with intention.

To the Maya, fire is a bridge, between the seen and unseen worlds… where every flicker of the flame carries a Divine intelligence.

Through the fire, the Maya communicate with ancestors, spirit guides, and the cosmos.

Throughout Guatemala, indigenous Mayan culture, including the fire ceremony tradition, is still alive today, having been passed down through generations.

I believe learning from the elders who carry this ancient knowledge is critical to maintaining part of our humanity that sometimes feels like it’s slipping away in what we’ve chosen to prioritize in modern society.

Indigenous wisdom holds golden keys to harmonizing with nature—if we’re willing to listen.
